A few fashion week models caused quite a stir thanks to some photos that were snapped during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC. The photos started a vicious rumor that Chanel was looking to launch an ‘Urban Tie Cap’ aka a Du-Rag! #ImagineThat

See, what had happened was…

Backstage at a few of the fashion week shows, hair stylists were using the du-rags to perfect the hairstyle for the evening. Hairstylist Orlando Pita clarified the use of the du-rags by explaining that they were used to create a flat & damp hairstyle for the Derek Lam show. That’s pretty much what Du-Rags do. DUH! The confusion may have come when the Du-Rags were described as ‘Urban Tie Caps’ and then photographed on the models for Instagram. While they looked glamorous in the Du-Rags, they were simply for hair prep. I can’t imagine the cost of a Chanel ‘Urban Tie Cap’ anyway. Insane! Thanks LA Times for clearing that up. People were really upset that Du-Rags were now being called ‘fashionable’.
