“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”
― Oscar Wilde
Who am I? Well, the license that I carry says James White. I’m named after my father but I’m not a junior. I was born in January, which makes me a Capricorn. I’m 23. I’m from St.Louis, Missouri. I’m a senior in college majoring in Media Studies. Typical life right? Somehow it feels like I have yet to enjoy it. I understand that hard works leads the way to enjoy the things we want in life. But too often our generation uses the mentality of wanting everything now; not realizing the effects this can have on us in the long run. We stress over things we can’t control. We turn our backs on people who have always cared about us. We keep around people whose sole purpose is to bring us down the moment they see us succeed. And for what? A temporary high? Something we want but don’t need? The stress of life is a heavy one and what’s unique about life is we all have different paths and different cards we’ve been dealt, but there are people who still care about your wellbeing that they will help you anyway they can. Sometimes you may need advice; sometimes you may need someone to just listen. But the ones who truly care about you can do both. But I believe the key to it all is balance. Being able to step back in the midst of chaos, look at your surroundings and decide what is best for YOU. At the end of the day you are the only person that can look out for you. Your health, your sanity, your happiness are in your hands. The energy you put out comes back to you tenfold. The more negative things you think about, the more negative energy will come back to you. The more you work on your happiness, the more positive energy is drawn to you.
It’s easy to get lost. We all commit the sin of worrying. I do as well. We’re human; and everything I said above takes time. We are still discovering who we are as individuals. Change is evident, and self-realization and evolution in our character is what makes the journey of life that much better. It takes a consistent effort on your part. But it’s one that needs to be done to truly enjoy life, rather than life passing you by and allowing its obstacles to weigh you down. Choose to do more than simply exist.
