Chelsea Hot Spot: Raines Law Room

Raines Law Room
48 West 17th Stret
(between 5th and 6th Avenue)
New York City, NY 10011

Named after a law prohibiting the sale of alcohol on Sundays, Raines Law Room is the perfect Flatiron lounge for either celebratory or intimate situations.  Located a block away from the Flatiron Gem Wix (wireless lounge), Raines Law Room is a perfect way to start/end an evening in New York City.   Equipped with a top-shelf bar and an endless drink list, there is something for everyone’s taste here. While it is not easy to gain entry into Raines Law, the process is worth the wait.  Located in an unsuspecting place, you will be presently surprised at what’s behind the door.  Depending on the day, people are served on a first come, first served basis.  While most spots are trendy and cheap but filled with “hipsters”, the hipster crowd here is minimal.

Raines Law Room is beautifully decorated with brick walls and plush furniture.  Located downstairs, the atmosphere is cozy yet modern and sleek.  At a certain part of the evening, the sheer curtains are pulled around the couches for privacy.  Tin ceiling and mirrors on the wall allow for a spacial illusion but the place is somewhat small and when crowded, it is a little snug.  Without loud, blaring music it is a great place to enjoy cocktails and have a great conversation. The wallpaper in the bathroom is a bit interesting. Using a pull chain, servers only come when beckoned.

The cocktails are priced between $13 and $19.  A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.  The menu consists of many different kinds of drinks including the featured drink which is currently a “Ragtime”.  A Ragtime is a Bonded Rye, Aperol and Amaro mixed drink with Peychaud Bitters and an orange twist.  Yummy to the palate.

Raines Law Room accepts reservations on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays only at this address reservations@raineslawroom.com.  The rest of the week, people are served on a first arrive, first served basis.  Check out the website for Raines Law Room here.  Make it one of your future spots to see.
