Sultry Sounds: Lisa Deveaux “Language of Love”

On July 12th, Songstress Lisa Deveaux will be releasing her sophomore album “Language of Love” on iTunes, Amazon.com, CD Baby and Borders e-retailers.   Covering Urban Contemporary, Pop, Jazz and Soul, Deveaux is set to make her mark.

Deveaux, a Chicago native has a strong voice and a musical gift.  With such influences as Sergio Mendes, Earth, Wind & Fire, Diana Ross and Sade, Deveaux manages to deliver a sultry sounding blend of R & B and Jazz.  The  Chicago music scene played a huge part in Deveaux’s career.  With Phyliss Hyman as a vocal coach, she was given the foundation she needed to begin building as a songstress.  She not only built a strong fan base but was able to accompany Phyliss as the youngest backup singer and later on lead vocals with the Legendary Barry White as a backup singer on tour.

“Language of Love” can be considered a personal reflection of Deveaux’s journey.  Co-writing seven of the songs, she compiles a collection of songs that anyone who has ever been in love can relate to.   Lisa states “Language of Love’ is about being open, honest and willing to be hurt.”  She uses a woman’s vulnerability coupled with a strong heart and the efforts of international producer Tigran Saakian to  take us on a life journey focused on love and all that it brings.

The track listing is impressive.  The title track “Language of Love” utilizes the efforts of saxophonist Marion Meadows.  She covers up-tempo tacks as well,  including “You Belong To Me” which was written by Michael McDonald and Carly Simon.  Lisa takes their track and puts her own spin on it to make it a Lisa Deveaux classic.  Deveaux also has a bonus track on the project called “Birthday Wish”.  This is a well written birthday tribute to a significant other that will make you want to sing/celebrate with him/her whether it’s their birthday or not.

At a time when R & B singers are struggling to make quality music, Deveaux is filling a void using talent and her appreciation for various genres of music.  She brings a project that is heartfelt, straight from the soul and it represents quality music at its finest.  If you’re in Chicago,  Lisa Deveaux’s Official CD Release Concert will be held at the DuSable Museaum of African American History (740 East 56th Place Chicago, Illinois 60637) @ 7:00 p.m.
